SMD takes on mountainous challenge for charity

9th June 2016
SMD Group colleagues are preparing to take on the gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of two local charities.

A team of 20 staff will all attempt to scale the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in less than 24 hours to raise money for Trinity Hospice and Boat House Youth.

They will tackle Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales on June 10 and are hoping to reach their fundraising target of £10,000.

SMD Group supports a range of charities with different fundraising efforts throughout the year and takes on an annual ‘big challenge.’

Previous fundraisers have included the 50 mile Yorkshire peak double marathon and the Lake District 30 peak endurance test, but 2016 marks the first year so many employees have taken part in a single challenge.

The team will plant a flag made from iLiv fabric at the top of each peak.

Jason Kenworthy, managing director at SMD Group, said: “We think it’s important to give something back and we have a firm commitment to supporting a range of charities. The Three Peaks is an incredible challenge; climbing one mountain is difficult enough but climbing three back-to-back with limited sleep in such a tight time frame is no mean feat. It’s been great to see so many staff of different fitness levels and experience step up to the plate with such enthusiasm and dedication.

“Trinity Hospice and Boat House Youth are two hugely worthwhile charities and families connected to SMD have experienced first-hand their wonderful work and support.”

Trinity Hospice provides compassionate palliative and end of life care to adults and children from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. It helps around 8,000 local people every year but the demand for care keeps on growing.

Boat House Youth works with young people living in deprived areas of Blackpool to keep them off the streets and help them achieve their individual potential by removing barriers and restrictions.
